Bundoora Old Paradians Cricket Club

OPs CLEAN SWEEP WEEKEND

The Bundoora Old Paradians have completed an emphatic clean sweep in round 4 of the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association. The 1's and 2's both thrashed Kew whilst the 3's and 4's got the chocolates against Balwyn.

The 1's already had the 6 points in the bag after day 1. Winning the toss, skipper Ashley Cavigan had no hesitation in sending Kew in on a day ideally suited to bowling. The Kew innings never really got going and eventually they were dismissed for 120 in 40 overs. The wickets were shared with the Mr T show continuing to roll (3/15), Harro claiming 3/21 and Ayresy and Mick Keeling 2 a piece. The Op's started their innings with a clear view to get the 6 points by close of play. This was achieded late on day one, closing at 7/131. Sprout batte well for 49 supported by Boo (37) and Harro (27). Day 2 was an opportunity for a few of the lower order batsman to get a hit and then hopefully claim some 2nd innings wickets. The day never really got going with the Op's dismissed for 173, Mr T getting 29. Kew's 2nd innings closed at 5/122. Mr T got another 3 to take his tally to 6 for the game. Mr T now has 22 for the year and he has set himself up for a very strong season. The 1's have now won 3 in a row and the round 1 hangover is a distant memory. The '1s are equal 2nd on the ladder on points however percentage is low and must be improved at every opportunity. The round 5 clash against Werribee crucial.

The 2's went into round 4 needing to win to stay in the hunt after a couple of tight losses in round 2 and 3. Kew won the toss and batted on a dry wicket with cloudy skys. The Op's bowled well all day and regularly took wickets. No one got past 30 for Kew and they were eventually dismissed for 161. Shaun Hickey and Chris Sier were the pick of the bowlers getting 3 each, Darren Callahan got 2. Tait Forster was terrific behing the stumps taking 4 catches. The Op's had 6 overs to bat to finish day one and got through unscathed to be 0/15 at stumps. Day 2 presented a great opportunity. Despite Thursday and Friday rain, to Kew's credit, we were welcomed by a dry and hard wicket and a sunny skys. The 2's batting has been vulnerable so far this seaosn so the 2's were not going to take the task of getting a further 146 runs lightly. The day started OK before Jamie Smith went for 7, 1/31. Al Bentley went soon after, 2/38. Tait Forster and Milney batted well together before Tait was unluckily given out caught behind for 10, 3/66 and game on (or so we thought). Wayne Game (in his first apprearance for the year) joined Milney and put together one of the best partnerships you could hope to see at this levle of cricket. Gamey rode his luck as he always does to score a magnificent 109. Milney, the form batsman of our club, continued his stellar year belting 134 not out. It was faultless ininings and a credit to hios maturity and shot selection; Milney is a fine young talent. Together Milney and Gamey put on 213 and completely demoralised Kew in the process. The Op's finished at 4/284. A great day of batting and a great win. The 2's are now 2 and 2! A big game against Werribee awaits.

The 3's travelled to Balwyn for a 1 day game after a washout last week. The 3's needed a win to stay in the hunt and went in with a pretty good side. A Mac won the toss and put Balwyn in. We bowled well to restrict Balwyn to 8/120 of their 45 overs. This isn't a lot of runs however the ground is big and our batting hasn't been that flash! The bowling honours were shared with Kapla getting 2 fa. Jimmy Taylor was terrific in the field taking 3 catches and getting 2 run outs. Our chase started poorly with Dave Miller and Jimmy Taylor missing out, 2/7. Then Schucky and Woodsy got together to produce a partnership of 70. Woodsy is a great young talent and is quickly learning the art of truf cricket, he made a well compiled 44. Mr reliable Chirs Schuck made 29. At 3/77 the game should have been very safe. However the 3's like to make it close. When Alex Ross was out for 16, we were 5/101. Wickets continued to fall and we slipped to 8/106. Together Jordo and Kalpa got us over the line in the over. A great win that keeps the 3's in the hunt. Having no umpires in the 3rd XI is very disappointing, forcing players to be central umpire is fraught with danger!

For a clean sweep we needed the 4's to win at home against Balwyn. Mick Geary was making his return in a 4th XI that looked stronger than previous rounds. Dave Wallace won the toss and had a hit. We made a very competitive 9/149. New player Dale Rozario made an impressive 19, whilst our best trainer, Norm made 27. Young gun Nishal got 20 at the top whilst skipper Wally 27 no. Mad Mick got the wicket of Sticka whilst Dave Wallace got the wicket of Jay. A poor batting performance from Balwyn, all out for 74 with some of the senior batsman hiding behind the young kids. Heardy returned the terrific figure of 4/7 whilst Sticka got 3/5. Jay, clearly under bowled all year, took another wicket. With only 7 in the comp, the 4's are still alive.

Terrific rounds lads!!!!!
